Distribution of CyanoHABs in the U.S.

Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (CyanoHABs) are found in lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and other freshwater systems throughout the U.S., and have gained national attention in recent years due to their impacts to drinking water supplies, and in some instances the sheer extent and magnitude of blooms.    Multiple federal agencies, academic partners, and non-profit organizations are engaged in studying and monitoring CyanoHABs throughout the U.S.  This page highlights several sources of information regarding the nation-wide distribution and incidence of CyanoHABs, including maps of bloom events (see below).
