NOAA Awards $20.1M for Harmful Algal Bloom Research in FY23

NOAA has announced approximately $20.1 million in Fiscal Year 2023 funding for harmful algal bloom (HAB) and hypoxia research via the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) and U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System Office (IOOS). The portfolio includes projects that advance new methods for HAB toxin measurement in seafood to prevent human illnesses; enhance HAB monitoring and response at all scales (local to national); and support National Harmful Algal Bloom Observing Network (NHABON) related activities. This announcement represents a coordinated NOAA effort to maximize advances in HAB and hypoxia mitigation, monitoring and forecasting.
